Windows Update and Error 0x8DDD0018 -FIX

I was having a hell of a time trying to get a Windows 2003 R2 Standard x64 server to load the Windows Update site. I was always getting the error: 0x8DDD0018

Sadly, the troubleshooting info at MS focused on starting the BITS service which (seemingly) was working just fine.

Well, I eventually stumbled on the solution. Try this at a command prompt:
regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll

Presto! Windows Updates should be working for you again :)

Andrew,

Thanks much for your fix, I've been looking for this tidbit of information. I've gotten everything working on my sharepoint 07 server, but for some reason Windows Updates was borked, even though BITS was working.

Thank you for your post!

I knew I had this info somewhere in a bookmark already, but have misplaced it (of course). Thankfully your page came up in a Google search!

Why on earth MS wouldn't include this as an alternate solution on the page relating to that error code is beyond me, as it's a 2 second job and can't cause harm.

Thanks.
